The formation of highly dispersed zinc oxide powder during combustion of zinc nitrate with glycine mixture and its application for photocatalytic phenol decomposition

The paper presents the results of a detailed study process and products combustion during self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) ZnO zinc oxide powder from mixtures such common reagents as oxidizer nitrate reducing agent (fuel) glycine, well application synthesized highly dispersed submicron nanosized for phenol photocatalytic decomposition under action ultraviolet irradiation. An aqueous solution mixture (the SHS-S or Solution Combustion Synthesis – SCS) gel initial dry formed when they were moistened due to hygroscopicity SHS-G Gel GCS) combusted. authors studied phase chemical compositions, structure product, effect calcination in an oxidizing air medium grinding drum ball planetary-centrifugal mills, mortar, on them their photocatalythic activity. showed that considerably increases activity significant decrease carbon impurity unburned fuel remains, mills reduces iron contamination coarsening particle agglomerates. difference between is evident only at stage irradiation, after which this disappears. discuss direction further research increase significantly use it effectively visible light.
